Cabrini, a program under Catholic Charities, is seeking a Law Fellow to provide immigration legal services to clients in need. The Law Fellow will work under the supervision of an attorney and will be responsible for various legal tasks such as community outreach, legal education, legal research, and individual representation. This position requires excellent legal skills, multi-cultural sensitivity, and experience working with low-income immigrant communities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide legal assistance to immigrant clients, including conducting legal intake and screening, drafting and preparing relevant immigration petitions, conducting legal research, and writing legal memoranda, motions, or briefs. - Maintain case information on case management systems and perform case management tasks such as file progress notes, correspondence, and calendars. - Attend and participate in team meetings, staff meetings, and other agency meetings as required. - Comply with all contract requirements and provide data and statistical information for grant and contract reporting purposes. - Participate in community outreach and education activities, including preparing legal education materials on immigration issues. - Perform other duties as assigned by Legal Directors and/or Managing Attorneys.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree from an ABA accredited law school. - Licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas and membership in the State Bar of Texas, or ability to obtain license within one year of employment date. - Bilingual in Spanish and English. - Excellent legal research and writing skills. - Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills. - Ability to handle high-volume caseloads and multiple deadlines. - Knowledge of basic typing skills and computer applications such as MS Office. - Multi-cultural skills and sensitivity. - Ability to handle and maintain confidential information. - Experience working with low-income immigrant communities.
